Austin Diocese Office of Pro-Life Activities A consistent ethic of life reflects the church's firm conviction of the dignity of each and every human life. Created in the image and likeness of God, each of us is unique and special. And, each of us has a responsibility to God, self and others to nurture, protect and sustain life at all stages of existence. Abortion plays a central role among the issues of concern and draws all other issues of basic human rights under the same umbrella. The objectives of the Office of Respect Life are fourfold: spiritual, pastoral, educational, and advocacy. Its efforts are in tandem with the U.S. Catholic Conference's Pro-Life Secretariat. Gabriel Project A lay ministry that has been established to help women in crisis pregnancies. The goal is to provide spiritual and emotional support and to serve as a resource to meet the physical needs of both the mother and infant where possible. A woman called an Angel is paired with the woman in need of help. Together they travel a journey that may last until the baby is six months old. An Angel serves the varying needs of the mother…she is a Friend, a Mentor, a “Shoulder to Cry On”, and a Coach. Sometimes an Angel is someone to help guide the woman in the right direction when she does not know how to begin meeting the present and future needs of herself or her baby. Motherhood is an awesome responsibility, especially for a younger woman without parental or spousal support, without parenting skills, without employment, seemingly without hope. Someone is there to offer support to this new mom as she chooses life for her child even though the circumstances we not “just right”. Anyone affected by a crisis pregnancy should call 512-238-1246 or 1-877-WE CARE 2. |
